Escape Room 360°

One winter evening in Montreal, Elena’s phone rings. Maria, a friend and archivist at the Vatican, has just come across a document that could rewrite history: Paititi, the lost city of the Incas, may really have existed.

Elena leaves at once, from Rome to the heart of the Amazon.

In this book, you play her.

24 puzzles mark the way, and at each step a QR code opens a 360° scene on your phone, with no app to download.

The puzzles are by Arnaud Cebollada (Unlock!, Hachette), and the 360° scenes are built by esKapad.

It’s the kind of book you pull out on a Sunday evening, alone or with the family, and solve together, between the pages and the screen.

FAQ

The game

What is the Escape Room 360° book?

A puzzle book with 24 puzzles. You play Elena, an archaeologist, from Rome to the Peruvian Amazon, in search of Paititi, the lost Inca city. Each puzzle is played in the book and in a panoramic scene on your phone.

Is it an Advent calendar?

Not specifically. But with 24 days and 24 puzzles, you can absolutely play it as an Advent calendar. You can also treat yourself, or give it as a Christmas gift!

Can I play all year round, or only at Christmas?

You can play all year round. The story isn’t centered on Christmas, even though it briefly refers to it.

How does it work, exactly?

You read the story and the visual and written clues in the book, you scan the QR code on the page, and the scene opens in your browser. You move your phone to look around, search for clues, then solve the puzzle by answering right inside the scene: a path to follow, a piece of information to enter, tiles to press in a precise order…

Do I need to download an app?

No. Everything happens in your phone’s browser. All you need is an internet connection.

What phone do I need?

An iPhone or Android smartphone. Unless it dates back to 2010, it will work 🙂 No gyroscope? You can still explore the scene by swiping on the screen.

Can I play on a computer?

Yes. In that case, type the address of each scene into your browser: it is printed in the book, below the QR code. A phone remains the best way to play.

Is there a soundtrack?

Yes! Once you have the book, just sign up: you’ll receive a page with links to every scene, each with a cinematic soundscape that pulls you straight into the adventure.

How long does the adventure last?

It’s up to you! You can play it in one evening (a very long one, around 6 hours) or one puzzle a day, like an Advent calendar.

Do I have to play in order?

Yes, one day after another: some clues you spot in a scene come in handy later.

How difficult is it?

The difficulty builds gradually, with some easier puzzles and some tougher ones. You don’t need to be an escape room regular.

Is it a book for teens?

No, it is designed mainly for adults. But a teen aged 13 or older will be perfectly able to crack the case and have a great time… Why not as a family?

What is the recommended age?

13 and up.

What if I get stuck?

Each puzzle has hints you unlock one at a time, then the solution if you really can’t find it. There is also an online community to talk it through.

Can we play as a group?

Yes, with family or friends: one book is enough. In a group, you can share one phone or each look at the scene on your own.

Do I have to write in the book?

Not necessarily, but each puzzle comes with a notes page to help you solve it.

Can I replay it or lend it afterwards?

That depends on whether a puzzle made you tear out a page 🙂

Will I find spoilers on this site?

No, nothing on the site gives the puzzles away.

Behind the scenes

Who is behind the game?

The concept, the project management and the 360° scenes (images and web development) are my work. I’m Benjamin L., the self-publisher behind the name esKapad. A game lover with too many ideas a minute!

The puzzles are by Arnaud Cebollada, game designer (Unlock!, Hachette, 404 Éditions).

Illustration and layout are by Sylvain Parize, technical illustrations by Pascal Sauvineau.

Was AI used to create the book?

The puzzles and the story are created by humans. The visuals of the 360° scenes and the book’s illustrations were made with artificial intelligence tools, under the art direction of Benjamin L. and Sylvain Parize.
